Gigawatt AI vs. GridX
Discover why Gigawatt is the AI-native suite for execution beyond rate intelligence
Which modernization path fits your utility
Gigawatt modernizes utility functions in weeks, not years.
What it is
An AI-native operating platform for utility work. A rules engine catches exceptions, AI agents work them with a human approving what matters, and agents answer questions against live account and usage data.
An Enterprise Rate and Data Platform for the rate and program lifecycle, operating alongside the CIS.
Complex rate calculation
Headless rating engine on your existing CIS. Tariff and jurisdiction engines, native interval billing, continuous calculation, shadow billing in production isolation, AI-assisted tariff configuration from regulatory documents.
Rate engine with in-engine interval calculation and a stated penny-level accuracy.
What it covers
Revenue, customer and contact center, field service, outage and market operations on one platform.
The rate and program lifecycle: design, analysis, implementation, customer rate guidance and forecasting.
Where it runs
On-premise, SaaS, or inside your own cloud tenancy.
Delivered alongside your existing systems.
System of record
Your choice. In add-on mode your CIS keeps the receivables sub-ledger and Gigawatt performs rating. In replacement mode Gigawatt becomes the CIS and MDM.
The CIS remains the system of record. GridX has no CIS product.
How you buy it
Modular. Priced per module. Turn on what you need, when you need it.
Product modules across the rate and program lifecycle.
Comparisons use publicly available information to interpret each competitor’s documented core platform scope.
When Gigawatt is the better fit
Gigawatt delivers measurable workflow modernization without core-system migration or operating-model change.
Gigawatt may fit when
Your exception queues must shrink instead of recycling every cycle
Your CSRs need accurate high-bill answers from live account data
You need AI agents resolving work, not simply scoring outcomes
You want reusable AI agents across multiple utility workflows
Your rate work is handled, but operational execution is not
You need deployment in your own cloud or on-premises environment
You want to start modernization before committing to CIS replacement
GridX may fit when
You need to build rates directly from cost-of-service inputs
You need full-population bill impact analysis to support a rate case
You need meter-level load forecasting and planning
How Gigawatt’s operating model works
Start with one workflow. Add the next when it earns its place.
Launch
Deploy over existing systems. One utility loaded data in 3-4 weeks and went live in 2-3 months.
Validate
Measure against the baseline set during implementation. At that utility, call durations came down.
Scale
Configure the next module on the running deployment while your CIS remains the system of record.
Why utilities choose Gigawatt over GridX
Gigawatt is built for utility-wide execution. Where workflows cross systems, Gigawatt is the better answer.

Common questions about Gigawatt vs. GridX
What is the main difference between Gigawatt and GridX?
GridX is a rate platform: rate design, billing-grade calculation, rate analytics and load forecasting, operating alongside your CIS. Gigawatt is an operating platform. It performs the same rating function as an add-on, and the same deployment extends into billing exceptions, customer operations, field service, outage and market work.
Both platforms handle billing exceptions. What is actually different?
What Gigawatt does with them. Rules catch the exception, then AI agents work it: root cause, a proposed or executed fix, and human approval on what matters, with analysis aimed at stopping that exception class from recurring.
Does Gigawatt replace the utility's CIS or rate engine?
Only if you want it to. In add-on mode Gigawatt takes over the rating portion of billing and your CIS remains the system of record, including the receivables sub-ledger. In replacement mode Gigawatt Revenue is the CIS, MDM and rate engine. The boundary is set per engagement.
How does the add-on actually work?
Gigawatt reads the data required to calculate a bill from your CIS and returns the calculated result. Exceptions are captured in Gigawatt and pushed to your systems through event notifiers.
How does Gigawatt govern AI decisions?
Tariffs, eligibility rules and thresholds stay deterministic. Agents decide when to invoke a rule and never recompute one. Autonomy is set per action and per tenant, from read-only through approval-gated to reversible autonomous action, and every action is recorded with its inputs, rule version, approver and escalation path.
How is Gigawatt priced?
Modular, priced per module. You turn on what you need and add capability as it earns its place.
We already run GridX. Can Gigawatt work alongside it?
Yes. Utilities running GridX for rate design and forecasting can add Gigawatt for the operational work: exceptions, customer service, field and outage. GridX stays the rate specialist and feeds into how the work actually runs. If Gigawatt later becomes your CIS, GridX can continue to operate against it.
How should a utility choose between Gigawatt and GridX?
Start with the outcome you are buying. Choose GridX when rate design, rate case analysis or load forecasting is the goal. Gigawatt does not do those. Choose Gigawatt when the goal is changing how the operational work runs, and complex rating is where you want to start.
